Proof #87 That You’ve Just Eaten Good Barbecue

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

You sit down, breathe deep, and your nasal passages fill with the mouth-watering, smoky sweet tang of barbecued pork, beef, and chicken.

And this is two hours after you got home from the restaurant.

(thanks to Brickyard BBQ for another great visit)

Paige Davis’ Delightful Bottom Returning to Trading Spaces

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

I know, I know what you’re thinking…

Trading Spaces is still on the air?

Apparently so, although I couldn’t have told you so before reading about Paige Davis rejoining the cast of the show, after it went to a no-host format in 2005.

I lost interest in the show long ago, especially after realizing that a house full of dogs, cats, and kids is not conducive to having a clean, well-decorated home.

I’m still interested in Paige Davis’ bottom, I suppose.

Maybe it should get its very own segment of the show.

That’s right, that’s me, writing about the important stories of the day.

Today’s Required Nanny-State Reading

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

Check out this article from Reason magazine on how drinking is under attack. Not drunk driving, mind you - oh no, no no! - but drinking and then driving. Even after one beer. (You’ll have to read a ways in to learn about proposals for making in-car breathalizers universal in some states).

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) may not be shit-faced, but they’re sure full of shit.

Oh, Tell Me, What’s Your Secret Ingredient?

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

The wife would probably like to have one of these in our kitchen.

I wonder if the manufacturer’s name can be removed from the front…

I can see that turning off guests.

Or, well, me.

(Although I do think Smeg, despite their name, makes some neat appliances).

Join us, won’t you?

Update: As always, a good time was had by all. And I even woke up with no hangover, which is surprising after an RMBB.

Eat, Drink, and Be Forgetful

RMBB 7.2 is just around the corner.

I should post some pics and vids from the very first RMBB way back in the day when blogging was cool and fresh and new. Someone remind me next week or whenever.

In the WWR Kitchen: Bon Appetit Edition

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Chicken with Pear SalsaI recently expanded the list of subscriptions to food/wine magazines from one (Food & Wine) to two (Bon Appetit). My first issue arrived the other day and the opportunity to prepare something presented itself with my leaving work a little early this afternoon.

So, tonight, the WWR Household dined on Sauteed Chicken Breasts with Pear, Bell Pepper, and Cilantro Salsa. Sorry that the photos aren’t the best, but I was using our cheaper digital camera and you get what I paid for. Next time I’ll keep the (ancient, but effective) Olympus Z3030 nearby.

I served the meal with a very affordable 2005 Hogue Late Harvest White Riesling to tame the jalapeños, bringing with it pear notes to complement the pear flavors in the recipe.

Fiona and Mrs. WWR cleaned their plates, so it must have been good.

Girls On Film

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Is it just me, or does it demonstrate a baffling lack of cultural self-awareness for Arab TV to - in all earnestness - analyze why some Saudi women are getting undressed on the web?

I wonder where one can find these women online.

You know, for investigative and educational purposes only.

Because I’m pure and innocent.

Like a puppy.

A snow white puppy.

Made of butterflies.

And love.
