He Knew

When the news of al-Zarqawi being killed broke, one of the thoughts I had was that he never knew what him. He never had the pleasure of seeing American troops standing over him. He never had a chance to realize that he, quite simply, lost.

But it turns out he did:

"He was conscious initially according to the U.S. forces that physically saw him. He obviously had some kind of visual recognition of who they were because he attempted to roll off the stretcher, as I am told, and get away, realizing it was U.S. military," Caldwell said.

I'm glad he got to see the stars and stripes before he saw the great nothing.
