Just Stuff

Yeah, so, like I said: busy.

But here's some stuff you've probably already seen elsewhere:

• More evidence for the inflationary model of the universe. Nifty keen, that. However, please don't tell certain other bloggers who seem to think that such theories aren't scientific (which does more to display a general ignorance of science than to discredit inflation or boost pet nonsense like "intelligent design").

• What is it with Roman Catholics comparing gays to Nazis? Look, I don't care if a private parade wants to exclude people (unless they're receiving government monies), but I thought such insensitive and obvious idiocy, the sole result of which is to insult the memory of those killed by the Nazis, was to be left to Catholic uber-blogger Mark Shea.

• Silent Struggle - a new theory of pregnancy. It's not all that new: I read years ago about the biological war that a mother and fetus wage against one another in the battle for survival.

  Hmmm...does that sound like the work of a benevolent and intelligent designer filled with nothing but peanut-buttery love? Or a natural process that chooses what works most often for reproductive success, other consequences be damned? Hmmm.

• Annie Proulx - good author, whiny woman.

Oh, I'm in the market for a new PC, something to use for home recording as well as moderate gameplay when the mood strikes. So, it needs to be fairly fast, have a decent soundcard and good graphics capabilities, and not sound like a 747 roaring down the runway. Anyone got suggestions?
