Sincerity? My Middle Name Is Sincerity.
Based on the (rather limited, honestly) response to this post, I would like to offer an apology to all of those who have been praying for the victims of the Boxing Day Tsunami. Your spiritual contribution to the relief efforts is appreciated. It was simply wrong of me to make jokes at your expense. Wrong. So wrong.
At the same time, I'd also like to take a moment to recognize some other folks:
- People Who Lick Gerbils For World Healing: Despite any evidence that anything you're doing makes a difference, you've trudged right ahead with getting your tongues all covered in gerbil fur. That's dedication, and it should be applauded.
- Tree-Humping Wiccans and Other Neo-Pagans: Surely your singing and dancing and chanting and getting naked for our Earth Mother - Gaia, if I may be so bold as to call the goddess by name - has had a tremondous impact on something somewhere. True, nothing we've seen yet, but ... I'm an optimist.
- People Making Monkey Sounds at Old Folks for World Harmony: "Ook ook ook," says the monkey. And that means "doubleplusgood peace and love." From the bottom of my heart, People Making Monkey Sounds, thank you for your essential efforts.
- Guy Sitting There Naked Drawing Floppy Bunny Ears on His Floppy Willy: Human artistry and humane aid, what more could we ask? Right now, your penile Peter Cottontail is certainly working some mysterious magic over in the Indian Ocean. I dare not mock thee and thy mighty tool for good and righteousness.
I've tried to cover everyone who is engaged in some sort of activity that has absolutely no visible evidence of accomplishing anything at all of value*. If I missed something or someone, please let me know.
In the meantime, the rest of us, let's continue donate to the good people who are working to save the many lives still at risk from the holiday devestation. It costs more than prayer, but - then again - it also works.
* I realize I've also just described blogging. The crucial difference is that I don't claim my blogging does anything other than amuse me and a few other folks with excellent taste.
