Exoneration

Ann Coulter proves once again that her powers of reason are, well, lacking. In one fell swoop, she uses the current Central Park jogger case controversy to declare:

The anti-death penalty lobby never sleeps. Unable to convince the public that savage murderers should be given radio shows rather than lethal injections, anti-death penalty zealots have turned to lying about proof of guilt. With convicted felons constantly being "proved innocent," the public finally began to sour on the death penalty. The phony DNA "exoneration" project was the first attack on the death penalty that ever worked.

Years after juries have rendered their guilty verdicts, criminal defense lawyers are still hard at work, hatching new theories of innocence and dredging up phony "new" evidence.

Unfortunately, her irrational stance means that she places complete trust that eyewitnesses are never wrong (say, anyone seen a white truck with an olive-skinned or angry white male in it lately?) - that lawyers never make mistakes (hey, OJ, try on this glove while wearing a rubber glove) - that juries are never biased (see OJ again) - and that confessions cannot be coerced.

That she would discount a technological advance that has the ability to prove people innocent after the fact is beyond reprehensible - but then again, that's never bothered Ann. Might unscrupulous laywers find a way to abuse the DNA exoneration in certain situations? Of course - I don' t think anyone would deny such a claim - but that Ann thinks it's better to imprison or kill any number of innocent people to prevent a few guilty people from getting away is a frightening glimpse of the America she envisions.

Thanks, but no thanks, Ann. Were I a petty individual, I'd wish you found guilty for a crime you didn't commit - just so those pesky liberals could save your hide. Not that you'd have the slightest bit of gratitude.
