Suck It, Donohue

That would be Bill Donohue of Catholic League.

Kathy Griffin, the star of the Bravo show “My Life on the D-List,” used her appearance on the Emmy awards program to tell Jesus to “suck it” and to claim full credit for the honor for herself…

“I guess hell froze over,” Griffin announced. “A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this. He had nothing to do with this. … Suck it, Jesus! This award is my god now.”

The statement brought an immediate reaction from Bill Donohue, president of Catholic League. He called it a “vulgar in-your-face brand of hate speech” from a self-described “complete militant atheist.”

Oh, the horror! Kathy Griffin took “full credit for the honor herself” – can you believe it? How could she forget all those late night writing marathons with Jesus? Or the way Yahweh would help her edit each episode, even on really short notice? And he’d even bring doughnuts!

That bitch.

And where does Donohue get off calling it hate speech? Who did she attack? The only name I saw mentioned was a mythological figure based on some guy who has been dead for nearly 2000 years.

Maybe he could nail her on breaking that whole “false idol” commandment, but I doubt she really plans to worship a statuette (even though it is more substantial and real than any gods).

Offensive things get said on television all the time. You have the option to turn the channel. I hear there are some real hotties on EWTN, for example.

“It is [a] sure bet that if Griffin had said, ‘Suck it, Muhammad,’ there would have been a very different reaction from the crowd and from the media who covered this event,” Donohue said. “To say nothing of the Muslim reaction.”

Which is relevant to the discussion in exactly… ummm… zero ways.

Awesome debate skills, Bill. No wonder you’ve sucked up the mythos so completely.

Oddly enough, Mr. Donohue once berated the guys behind South Park for letting Comedy Central censor an episode offensive to Muslims.

Do as I say, not as I do, huh, Bill? Keep it up and someday you might make it out of the laity into Church leadership!
