I'm gay and I don't like it all that much. I find the people much less friendly and hospitable than in SoCal. I also find them very intolerant of people who differ from the locallly accepted conventional wisdom. I was on the peninsula two weeks ago (not in the city) and I was reminded again why I would never move up there. The people you highlight are kooky, but there's a lot of kookiness up there. This is just one example. Some may call us looney, but it is our that difference in us that allows us to be more accepting and tolerant of others. My boys are being raised as atheists, hassle free.
